Welcome to Private Practice Made Easy, where my goal is to empower mental health professionals to take charge of their careers by starting successful, sustainable, and meaningful private therapy practices.
This blog was created with you in mind: the therapist, counselor, or psychologist ready to break free from traditional settings, eager to start or expand a private therapy practice that aligns with your values, goals, and vision for serving your clients, but who might not know where to begin (I’ve been there!)
I know that your expertise lies in helping others—not necessarily in running a business. That’s why my content is designed to be:
I’m Rachel and I’m a licensed clinical psychologist who has worked in mental health and substance use treatment settings since 2013.
I was working for a government agency when my first child was born. While I was on parental leave, I found myself dreading the idea of returning to work. I couldn’t imagine leaving this little person and having zero flexibility in my tour of duty. Unfortunately, there was no alternative for my family financially, so back to work I went.

Private Practice Made Easy was created to answer these questions and more. I truly believe that every mental health professional deserves access to practical tools and resources, expert advice, and a supportive community that makes the journey to private practice fulfilling and achievable.
Here, you’ll find:

Starting a private practice comes with a long to-do list: finding office space (or setting up a virtual one), choosing a business name, and building your professional brand. But in today’s digital-first world, one task rises above the rest—securing your domain name for your private practice. Think of it as your online address, the place…
Naming your private practice can feel a bit like naming a baby: it’s exciting, nerve-wracking, and you know it’s going to stick with you for a long time. You want something unique but not weird, professional but not stuffy, and memorable without being hard to spell (sorry, silent letters). And let’s not forget, to effectively…
Starting a private therapy practice can feel like jumping into the deep end of a pool with no life jacket. You’ve got the training, the passion, and the drive to help people, but how do you turn that into a sustainable business? The answer, my friend, is market research. Yes, it might sound about as…
Have you ever gone onto PsychologyToday, clicked on a provider, and seen a list of 20+ specializations? If you’re anything like me, you roll your eyes when you see that because there’s absolutely no way to be a specialist in everything! When starting a private practice, one of the most important steps is defining your…
So, you’re thinking about starting a private practice, but you’re not quite sure. Just imagining the possibilities of a private practice for therapists can be exhilarating—your own cozy office, the freedom to set your hours, financial freedom. But let’s be honest: running a private practice is more than soft lighting and comfy chairs. It’s a…
